Archie Gray was exceptional for Leeds United on Sunday afternoon as the Whites secured a 2-0 win over Millwall to go back top of the Championship table – and Cree Summerville has praised him.

Having only just turned 18, Gray – who is with England’s U21 side during the international break – has clocked up 41 games in all competitions for the whites this season after his debut on the opening day.

Playing in midfield or at right-back, he has been such a key part of this Leeds side. Glen Kamara said recently that Gray is simply a “different breed” – in his verdict of Thorp Arch academy product Gray.

Not his best performance against Millwall but still another excellent outing – such are the standards he has set himself during 2023-24. Gray took to Instagram on Monday after the win over Neil Harris’ side.

Gray has been incredible. With a number of new signings impressing after coming to the club in the summer, Gray has been like a new addition. Not involved beforehand, excelling under Daniel Farke.

If Leeds are to get promoted this season – which seems increasingly likely, and Georginio Rutter did comment on promotion after the win over Millwall – then Gray will have played an enormous part in that.

Gray will now be in action for the 21’s over the next fortnight alongside Charlie Cresswell, as they take on two European qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Luxembourg. Fingers crossed, he returns injury free.

Because, in the final eight games of the season, Leeds will need to count on their best players and Gray is certainly one of those. Summerville commented on his Instagram, describing Gray as “goldenboy”.
