Leeds United’s squad underwent a lot of changes in the summer and Mark Robins has delivered his verdict on it ahead of Coventry City’s trip to Elland Road.
Coventry were just one of four teams Leeds were unable to beat in the Championship last season. The Sky Blues took four points off Daniel Farke‘s side across the two meetings.
That is especially impressive considering Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter all started both of those matches, but have since been sold for over £100 million.
Leeds had a big job replacing that trio during the summer but in order to do so, spent just a fraction of the amount that was raised through those sales.
Largie Ramazani was effectively brought in as Summerville’s replacement, while Brenden Aaronson is the most like-for-like for Rutter.
Robins delivers verdict on Leeds’ transfer business
Robins previewed his side’s trip to Elland Road earlier today and gave a positive update on the fitness of Ben Sheaf, who looks set for his first Championship appearance since May.
Among the other topics covered was his thoughts on Leeds’ squad for the current campaign, having done so well against Farke’s side last season.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Robins gave a fairly positive verdict on how Leeds have been able to replace the players they have lost.
He said: “They’ve got a lot of good players, even though they’ve sold some for lots of money, they’ve replaced them pretty well.
“They’re managed really well, and Daniel Farke has done an incredible job and was really unlucky last season, as we were the season before not to go up and they will be looking to do that this season.
“They’ve got really good players there’s no doubt. They’re on the front foot and they want to press and the spaces they take up are really intelligent and they have intelligent players.
“They’ve lost a number of players, but they still have a lot of talent there and they look a threat.”
What Daniel Farke is expecting from out of form Coventry
With Robins having come under a bit of pressure this season after three defeats in six for Coventry, Farke was asked about Robins in his presser on Thursday.
Needless to say after last season’s meetings that Farke was full of praise for his managerial compatriot and won’t be taking Coventry lightly.
He said: “I’m totally convinced of the quality of Mark, because I always rate him as a top manager in this division, so much experience. More or less delivers in each and every season a top solution.
“When I judge Coventry, I think what he’s done, developed the club that always comes close to promotion to the Premier League. They finished either in the top six or close to the top six, always the same, has to rebuild after losing best players, but they always come pretty close to the top six.
“I expect them to finish in a much better position than they are. They lost quality players this summer, he does the same and develops the squad and rebuilds it.
“In terms of what he does, finds another solution, I’m full of respect and pretty sure they will be one of the competitors to finish in the top six. I’m not distracted by their start.”
