Borussia Monchengladbach’s hopes of signing Max Wober permanently could depend on whether Leeds United are promoted.
That is according to Rheinische Post, who claim it is still ‘too early to talk about figures’ regarding a potential permanent move for Wober, who cite Julian Weigl as an example.
It is said that after Weigl’s loan from Benfica last season, they were then able to eventually complete a permanent deal for him in May at a good price of just £6 million.
The article states that Gladbach have no one else quite like Wober in their squad as he is benefits their side in several areas of the field, including defensively, set-pieces and as a leader.
Gladbach have won just once in the Bundesliga so far this season, but Wober has been one of very few shining lights, consistently receiving praise from the German media for his performances.

If Leeds were to get promoted this season, they would be in a much healthier financial position to be able to demand a bigger fee.
Profit and sustainability rules are enforced much more strongly in the Championship than Premier League, and so promotion would eliminate their need to sell.
However, if Leeds were to remain the Championship, they would need to sell some assets next summer and Wober is almost certainly likely to be one of them given that he is out on loan and impressing.
It is also likely to depend on how desperate Leeds are to move on Wober, particularly given he has a contract until 2024.
If they are happy to move him on given the bridges he has burnt by going out on loan, a more suitable price from Gladbach’s point of view could be agreed. However, if they are in no rush to sell, it could price Gladbach out of a move.
