There were plenty of incidents during Leeds United’s 3-2 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday such as a red card, a penalty and other controversial moments – Chris Foy has given his take on the red.

Leeds secured three points thanks to goals from Dan James, Crysencio Summerville and Joel Piroe – the latter netting a penalty. It comes after Emmanuel Latte Lath scored a brace for Michael Carrick’s side.

There were controversial points. Leeds won a penalty when Clarke tried to tap tackle Georginio Rutter with his hand, moments after coming on. Leeds may then have conceded a penalty, Matt Crooks fouled.

Boro midfielder Dan Barlaser says he feels his side should have had a penalty. Though, a spot kick was not given – and there were question marks as to whether Crooks was inside the Leeds penalty area.

Anfornee Dijksteel was sent off for a second yellow in the second half. There weren’t many complaints in the second 45, when the defender was given his marching orders. Foy gave his take on the red card.

“I don’t think there will be too many complaints that the Middlesbrough player received a second caution for this challenge. On this occasion, the Boro player has lunged into the tackle,” Foy told Sky Sports.

“Clearly reckless, and was correctly shown a second caution. When on a booking already, any challenge a player commits to and doesn’t win the ball will always leave the ref with a decision to make,” he added.

It was without doubt, a red card. Two pretty standard yellows for Dijksteel. What is surprising, is that Sky and Foy did not cover the other issues in the match. Our penalty was a penalty, albeit a pretty soft one.

But Boro fans will be aggrieved that their side did not get a spot kick on Saturday and the fact that it seems to have gone under the radar in our 3-2 win. A brilliant victory for Leeds in the end, however.
