Carlos Corberan confirms ‘magnificent’ £7m Leeds target will now miss Elland Road audition tonight

Leeds United target Grady Diangana is set to be absent from the West Bromwich Albion squad which makes the trip to Elland Road tonight.

That is according to Baggies boss Carlos Corberan, who was speaking in his pre-match press conference to Express and Star, where he confirmed the match with Leeds would come too early for the winger.

Diangana has been absent for West Brom since February after picking up ankle ligament damage in a Championship encounter with Middlesbrough.

The 25-year-old – described as magnificent by Lee Hendrie for his pace and trickery – has been a big miss for West Brom in the six months he has spent on the sidelines.

That said, however, Diangana has been heavily linked with a move away from the Hawthorns this summer, with Express and Star reporting offers in the region of £7 million could tempt them into selling.

Corberan confirms Diangana to miss Leeds audition

Leeds are among the sides said to be interested in doing a deal, but will face competition from Leicester City, Burnley and Saudi Arabian sides.

Tonight’s match could’ve handed Leeds supporters the chance to see what he could bring to Elland Road if they were to firm up their interest, however he will be absent due to injury.

Corberan said: “We continue in the same process of rehabilitation. Diangana has been working with the group more, it means next week hopefully he can make normal training with the group and then you can think he is ready for some minutes or not against Middlesbrough, the coincidence that his last game was against Middlesbrough, we are talking from February.

“But how he has been working makes me think that he won’t need a lot of time to be able to help the team if we consider we need this.”

Despite the injury to Crysencio Summerville, as well as the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto, out wide is arguably bottom of Leeds’ priorities at this stage.

For that reason it feels unlikely Leeds will firm up their interest, but it would’ve been intriguing to see him in action at Elland Road this evening.
