Brenden Aaronson has taken to Instagram for the first time since Leeds United suffered relegation from the Premier League to the Championship – and while he underlined his disappointment, he thanks fans for welcoming him in.
Aaronson, 22, was the first of Jesse Marsch’s signings last summer – rejoining the American boss having worked with him at Salzburg. It got off to a superb start, arguably scoring against Wolves, and netting against Chelsea.
But things dipped from then on in. Aaronson managed just four goal involvements in 40 games – not including the one against Wolves which counted as an own goal – despite costing a princely sum in the region of a huge £25m.
A report from 90Min said earlier this week that Aaronson has a relegation release clause in his contract, which is believed to be worth around the £25m Leeds paid for him. German clubs are said to be interested in the midfielder.
Such a move would see Aaronson move to Germany for the first time, but to a country where his younger brother is currently residing. Paxten Aaronson joined Frankfurt in January. Our Aaronson posted on Instagram on Sunday.

Aaronson’s future is up in the air. Having played in the Champions League the season prior to his move to Elland Road, one would imagine that he sees his future away from Leeds. But, he has hardly set the world alight this term.
While there is interest from Germany, no club is going to meet his release clause due to his 22-23 form. So, surely, it is worthwhile giving Aaronson a year to prove himself at Leeds in the Championship – in a bid to restore confidence.
That depends on the player and his wishes. If he desires to depart, then Leeds may have to accept a fee below the clause that is now active, following relegation. But he is surely one Leeds should look to keep hold of this summer.
