Leeds United went to within three points of Championship leaders Leicester City as the Whites saw off Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night – and The Foxes unable to beat Hull City away from home.
The Whites now sit in second thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford and Willy Gnonto on Friday, while Ipswich were pegged back by Cardiff City in injury time. With nine games left, it is getting interesting.
Leeds are certainly the team with momentum. Southampton are some way adrift despite their game in hand, while Leicester have won one of their last five games. Ipswich had been on a good run of form.
But that unravelled in Wales and now, Leeds look the right side to go and gain automatic promotion and better yet – win the league. Gary Lineker spoke about his beloved Leicester on The Rest Is Football.
He could not believe that Leicester had given up a lead in the double digits, to now sit just three ahead of Leeds. Chapletown-born Richards responded, singing Marching on Together down the microphone.
“Only one of the last five, have Leicester. Squeaky, squeaky bum time. Why is it in football, nothing is ever bl***y easy? There you were, cruising along, 10 or 11 points clear, might have been 15 from third.

The weekend’s result proved to go massively in our favour – but that could change at any point. Just as it went well for us over the last few days, the opposite can happen. Millwall are up next, at Elland Road.
They will be delighted to have got a win after a last-minute goal from Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga – a player that joined Millwall in January. Leeds must ensure another win, going into the international break.
Lose, and allow the likes of Ipswich and Leicester to gather a head of steam, and Leeds will be left to dwell on that for the entirety of the break. A position that we cannot put ourselves in. A win is crucial.
