Ben Parker has told LS11’s Thursday podcast that he spoke to Leeds United star Luke Ayling this week about his goal celebration at Wolves on Saturday – and that the corner in which he scored from, was a pre-empted routine.
Ayling, 31, scored only his third Premier League goal for Leeds on Saturday – but his second at Molineux against Wolves. A header from close range, but one where he had to get it right and keep it down after the ball skidded up.
The goal saw Ayling mirror the celebration he did last season, when scoring as Leeds beat Wolves 3-2 away. His hilarious attempt at Robbie Keane’s cartwheel, forward role and shooting a gun saw Keane and Ayling converse.
Ex-Leeds defender Parker says he was with Ayling on Tuesday this week and speaking to LS11, he says that Ayling told him he was going to do the Keane celebration if he scored. He also says that the corner routine was planned.
“I was with him on Tuesday. I asked him about his celebration and he said, if I did score – he didn’t think he would do – he would pull out the bad Robbie Keane, or the good Robbie Keane, whichever way you want to look at it.
“But he did say that routine was planned from the corner, as well. So very well done to the coaching staff to pull it out. It was a difficult header for Bill because it came up at him quick, it skidded. He did well to control it really.”

Ayling was at the centre of everything on Saturday. His goal was superb, his celebration maybe not so – described as “horrible” by Junior Firpo. He was also on the receiving end of a bad tackle from Jonny, which saw him sent off.
A brilliant performance from the right-back, as he continues to keep Rasmus Kristensen out of the side on the right side of defence. His form, especially since the arrival of Javi Gracia, has been superb. He will be key in the run in.
