Kristoffer Klaesson was handed his first full start for Leeds United last time out in our 3-0 win over Birmingham City on New Year’s Day – and Ben Parker has commented on the Norwegian goalkeeper.
Klaesson, 23, is now approaching three years at Elland Road. But it took until the last time out against Birmingham for Klaesson to get his first start, only his second game. The other, a 3-2 win at Wolves.
He kept a clean sheet as Leeds eased to victory, Klaesson only called upon once to parry a low shot away from goal. It comes after Illan Meslier’s suspension, and then Karl Darlow’s dislocated thumb.
It is unclear if Klaesson will continue between the sticks on Sunday when Leeds take on Peterborough United in the third round of The FA Cup. It will depend on if Darlow recovers from injury in time to play.
Speaking to LS11, former Leeds man Parker says the £1m signing from Valerenga “loves” being at Leeds despite only two senior outings for the club – and only one since Daniel Farke came to Elland Road.
“Kris Klaesson. Buzzing for Kris. He’s had to be really, really patient. It’s not easy being a third-choice goalkeeper. Still having to travel to home and away games, do all the warm-ups,” Parker said to LS11.
“But know you’re not going to be involved. But to stay focused. He’s a great lad, loves being at Leeds. Got his chance and then we dominated the game,” Parker added, discussing the Norwegian’s morale.

Klaesson did well in his first full start, earning praise from Georginio Rutter and Luke Ayling. Former Leeds man Aidy White also gave his verdict on Klaesson after the win, impressed by his distribution.
It is good to know that if Meslier or Darlow are unavailable, as they were at Birmingham and possibly this weekend, then Leeds are in good hands with Klaesson. And, he is happy with us despite his game time.
