Kristoffer Klaesson was given his first Leeds United start on New Year’s Day, almost three years after joining Leeds – and the likes of Georginio Rutter and Luke Ayling have praised the Norwegian.
With Illan Meslier suspended, and Karl Darlow suffering a dislocated thumb in the warm-up prior to the West Brom loss – which saw him take pain killers to play – Klaesson was handed a start on Monday.
He kept a clean sheet and did what was needed to keep the ball out of the back of the net as we ran out 3-0 winners. Patrick Bamford, Dan James and Cree Summerville getting their names on the score sheet.
Klaesson took to Instagram after the match in what was only his second Leeds outing since his move to Elland Road in the summer of 2021. The other, coming on in a 3-2 comeback win against Wolves, away.
He underlined his delight at making a solid start to 2024, winning his second Leeds outing. It remains to be seen whether Klaesson will remain in goal when Leeds face Peterborough in The FA Cup on Sunday.
Georginio Rutter and Luke Ayling praise Leeds man Kris Klaesson
He didn’t look particularly convincing and when Meslier is back from his suspension, after the FA Cup clash against Peterborough, you would expect the Frenchman comes straight back into the Leeds side.
But, it was a great debut for Klaesson and he proved to Farke – and to Leeds fans, who have not seen him in action – that he is capable of doing it. Clearly, the Leeds players know Klaesson is good enough.
Georginio Rutter, Sam Greenwood – on loan at Middlesbrough – Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling and plenty of others have commented on Klaesson’s Instagram post. Many delighted to see him finally get his chance.
