Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has argued that Leeds United should not be happy to have only taken a point from their game against Brentford.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin came to the rescue for Leeds, as his second-half goal secured a point for the visitors, cancelling out Jordan Henderson’s opener.

However, there was an air of frustration after the game that Leeds could not claim all three points, with Daniel Farke admitting that his side had dominated several statistical categories but could not take all three points.

The result gave Leeds a three-point cushion on the Premier League relegation zone, as they continued to climb away from trouble.

But according to Ben Foster, Leeds should be “gutted” that they did not claim all three points in a winnable game.

Ben Foster says Leeds United should be ‘gutted’ with Brentford result

Speaking on the Ben Foster Podcast, the former Manchester United goalkeeper argued that Leeds should not be happy having taken a point, despite Brentford’s strong home record.

According to Foster, Leeds were the better side in the game, and it represents a missed opportunity to close the gap on the sides above them.

Foster said: “Massive result for Leeds. And Leeds are good, you know, Leeds were a better team, Leeds were much better than Brentford, they really were. Leeds will be gutted that they haven’t got three points here.”

The former goalkeeper also did not enjoy the spectacle, as he added: “It was a good header [from Calvert-Lewin] to be fair.

“This was a miserable game at times, it really, really was. This was my Sunday highlight game, and it kind of failed a little bit, to be honest with you.”

Lucas Perri needs to improve his distribution to help his side

While there were several impressive performances for Leeds in the defence against Brentford, with Pascal Struijk setting a season-high for most defensive contributions, there is one major issue for Daniel Farke’s side.

According to the data from FotMob, Leeds’ goalkeeper, Lucas Perri connected with just 8 of his 27 attempted passes, with a success rate of just 30%.

This follows on from a 31% pass success rate in the game against Liverpool and a similar rate of 32% against Chelsea.

While Daniel Farke has admitted Perri will never be Maradona, there will be a point at which this becomes a significant problem for Leeds. Even though Leeds are playing more directly, Farke needs the ball to stick when it goes to his strikers, not to be surrendered to the opposition.
