BBC pundit says 27-year-old Leeds player didn’t play badly yesterday

Jon Newsome has suggested that he thought that Glen Kamara actually did fairly well for Leeds United despite their emphatic defeat to Southampton on Saturday.

Newsome was speaking on BBC Radio Leeds after the Whites were punished for a dreadful first-half display on the south coast.

Glen Kamara kept his place in the side after making his full debut for Leeds in the stunning win over Watford. Unfortunately, Saturday’s game proved to be much more disappointing.

Leeds were so poor across the park, including in midfield. Ethan Ampadu arguably had his worst game in a Leeds shirt.

Archie Gray tried to make some things happen when he came on. And the 17-year-old has been a revelation so far this season. With that, some may be hoping that he comes back in against Queens Park Rangers this coming week.

However, Newsome felt that Kamara did not actually do a lot wrong. And thus, Daniel Farke faces a tough decision.

“Does Archie come back in? I didn’t think Kamara was too bad today,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I thought he kept looking for the ball. He was trying to get us going. Ampadu didn’t have his greatest game. But you know what, he might have a fantastic game on Wednesday so that’s the difficult one, the three in there.”

Daniel Farke will avoid any rash decisions

Ampadu is surely not going to drop out of the side. He had an off-day against the Saints. But he is one of the most important players in Farke’s system.

There are likely to be plenty of Leeds fans who disagree with Newsome and feel Kamara can have few complaints if he does drop out of the team.

But it would be unfair to drop the 27-year-old after just two starts. Ultimately, it is hard to think of anyone who emerged from the game with any sort of credit. Perhaps Pascal Struijk was the best of a very bad bunch.

It must also not be forgotten that Gray appeared to need the rest after an electric start to the campaign. So Farke has to consider what is right for the teenager before making any changes.

Kamara played his part in, by far, the best Leeds display so far this season. So he should not be singled out after what will hopefully be, by far, the worst performance we get from the Whites this year.
