The saga of Josh Doig has taken many twists and turns this month but nothing has been confirmed as of yet and now – the Leeds United target is attracting interest from both Aston Villa and Fulham.

Doig, 21, has been starring over in Italy with Verona. Two goals and four assists in 22 games from left-back last season and this time around, a key player for the Serie A side. Marseille were set to sign him.

It came after Leeds, Rangers Torino and Monza were all linked. Even Arsenal were said to be keeping tabs on Doig. A £4.3m move to Gennaro Gattuso’s side has hit the skids and he is back at Hellas Verona.

Dean Jones reports on Give Me Sport that Doig was saddened that his move to Marseille did not go through. Indeed, it is claimed he could be on his way to Serie A side Sassuolo, as per Gianluca Di Marzio.

But Jones claims that Aston Villa and Fulham are still considering Doig and could make a move before a deal with Sassuolo, worth £5m, is done. So, there could still be time to do a move – even for Leeds.

Leeds target Josh Doig attracting interest from Villa and Fulham

Doig would be a brilliant signing for us. What he must take into account should he join Villa or Fulham, is whether he would start. Alex Moreno has been excellent for Villa. Antonee Robinson is key for Fulham.

He’d struggle to start but at Fulham or Villa, but you’d imagine he would be first choice at Elland Road. Whether, after being linked with Sassuolo and Marseille, he’d be open to joining us is another question.
