On Thursday night, Arne Slot watched his Feyenoord side secure a huge 1-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s Roma as the Dutch side exacted revenge in their Europa League clash – while Leeds star Diego Llorente remained an unused sub.
The two sides did battle less than a year after Feyenoord suffered defeat to Roma in the Europa Conference League final. A game in which Luis Sinisterra played in under Leeds-linked boss Slot. Roma won that match 1-0, last term.
Indeed, a game in which another Leeds target Nicolo Zaniolo scored the only goal of the game. A player that has since gone to our bitter rivals Galatasaray. The two sides and Mourinho and Slot met once again, in Rotterdam.
Slot, who has now been linked with Spurs, West Ham, Palace and Leeds as per The Times, is riding the wave right now. His Feyenoord side are eight points clear at the top of the Eredivisie. They took on Roma in the Europa League.
With Feyenoord home first, getting a win on the board before going to Rome next week was crucial. They did just that but Slot’s side rode their luck. Perhaps helped by injuries suffered by Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham.

Indeed, the on-loan Leeds defender has finally got his chance at Roma over the last few weeks – starting the last two Serie A matches. But on Thursday night, he was an unused sub. Slot delight, as Llorente remains a bystander.
It will be interesting to see how Slot and Feyenoord approach to second leg. Likely, they stick true to their style and go to score a second goal – rather than sitting back on their slender lead. Roma will still be confident of a victory.
