Archie Gray has given a resounding answer as to who the toughest player to mark is in Leeds United training.
Gray has spent much of the season playing as a right-back and so day in, day out at Thorp Arch, he will be putting himself up against all of Leeds’ tricky wingers.
In Crysencio Summerville, Dan James, Willy Gnonto and Jaidon Anthony, Daniel Farke boasts arguably the best crop of wingers across the entire division, and so Leeds’ full-backs will certainly have their work cut out on the training pitch.
Junior Firpo has previously spoken about how difficult it is to stop them in training, and now Gray has echoed those thoughts in a quickfire interview with Ben Parker for the PFA.
The 18-year-old was asked who the toughest player to face is in training, and without hesitation, named Summerville due to his ability to go both ways, as well as his pace.
Gray names Summerville as hardest to mark
He said: “I would say one v one defending is Cree [Summerville]. Like so fast, either way he can go left or right, and is just so fast.”
With central midfield still very much Gray’s best position, having to mark the likes of Summerville in training is perfect preparation for whoever he comes up against on the weekend.
Summerville has been the best winger in the league this season with 15 goals and eight assists, and so if Gray can stop him regularly enough, then he can anyone.
Gray has said before that both Summerville and Anthony are always giving him advice on how he can improve defensively in one v one duels, and that is exactly what he needs at his age.
However, it has to be said, when he does return to his favoured role of midfield on a full-time basis, it will be exciting to see how he develops there. His great uncle Eddie is certainly excited for it.
