Ange Postecoglou has told his latest press conference that Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp is definitely a part of his plans this season at Spurs – after Phil Hay said Leeds boss Daniel Farke would love to sign the midfielder, again.
Skipp, 22, played under Daniel Farke during the German’s second promotion as Norwich manager in 2020-21. The midfielder clocked up 47 games for Norwich as the Spurs ace played a crucial role in the Canaries’ promotion.
He is back at Spurs and has integrated himself into the first-team plans despite a number of managerial changes. Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte, Ryan Mason and now, Postecoglou. All in just two years. Does he have a future?
Well, in midfield there is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma, the crocked Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr and the addition of James Maddison. Gio Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are back after loans with Villarreal and Napoli.
So there are options but of course, Skipp is slightly more defensive than most of the above names. Hay said that while it was unlikely due to his Spurs involvement and cost, Farke would love Skipp. Postecoglou has commented.
“He’s part of my plans absolutely. We gave him the option [not to travel on pre-season tour]. We did leave it in his corner. I was more than prepared for him to miss this part of the trip but in the back of my mind I liked his decision.”

Skipp would be a wonderful signing but the chances of signing him are zero. He is pushing for a starting spot in Postecoglou’s Tottenham side. Even if Postecoglou decided to let him go – he would not be going to the second tier.
A move to a Premier League club is much more likely, but it does not feel as if Skipp is going anywhere this summer. Perhaps, promotion and the lure of Farke could tempt Skipp – if he falls down the Tottenham pecking order in 23-24.
