Andrea Radrizzani returned to Elland Road for Leeds United’s 3-1 win over Burnley and publicly praised Paraag Marathe afterwards, but his appearance is reminder that Leeds are in a better place now.

Radrizzani shared an image on LinkedIn from Elland Road after watching Leeds beat Burnley in their most recent home game, a result that pushed Daniel Farke’s side closer to Premier League safety.

In his LinkedIn post, he praised Paraag Marathe’s leadership and backed Leeds to remain in the top flight, describing the club as one capable of “progressive growth” under the current ownership.

What was Radrizzani’s worst moment as Leeds owner?

Bielsa's sacking, Elland Road used in Sampdoria talks, his tweets about Bamba Dieng…

He said: “Last night I had the pleasure to return to Elland Road after a long time to watch Leeds United against Burnley. It was great to feel again the incredible atmosphere and passion of the Leeds fans.

“I had the chance to meet Paraag Marathe and congratulate him personally for the amazing job he and all the team are doing. I am sure Leeds United will retain Premier League status and continue a progressive growth in the coming years.

“I will always remain emotionally attached to this special club and I wish everyone at Leeds United the very best for the future.” Leeds are more stable than during the final months of Radrizzani’s ownership.

Marathe now leads the club Radrizzani left behind

Marathe worked alongside Radrizzani for years while 49ers Enterprises held a minority stake in Leeds before eventually completing a full takeover in 2023.

The ownership transition allowed the 49ers to fully reshape the club after a chaotic relegation campaign that damaged confidence in the previous regime.

Leeds supporters largely accepted that Radrizzani helped return the club to the Premier League, but the feeling around Elland Road changed sharply during the final season under his control.

The current structure under Marathe is viewed by many fans as more measured and disciplined, particularly after years where Leeds often appeared reactive both on and off the pitch.

Bielsa’s dismissal still defines supporter opinion

For many supporters, the turning point in Radrizzani’s relationship with the fanbase came when Marcelo Bielsa was sacked and replaced by Jesse Marsch.

Bielsa had transformed Leeds both culturally and competitively, so the decision immediately created division among supporters. Radrizzani admits he made one big mistake at Leeds; sacking Bielsa.

The situation worsened as results declined and Leeds eventually suffered relegation, with criticism growing around recruitment, spending and the wider direction of the club.

The appointment of Jesse Marsch remains closely associated with the collapse of that period, even though ownership and football operations have since changed significantly.

Supporters have not forgotten the controversies

Radrizzani also frustrated supporters through his public communication style, particularly during transfer negotiations and sensitive moments involving the club.

Did Leeds deserve to beat Tottenham?

His handling of Leeds’ pursuit of Bamba Dieng drew criticism from fans who believed transfer developments should have remained private.

There was also backlash during his attempts to buy Sampdoria, with some supporters angered by suggestions involving Elland Road during the negotiations.

That combination of football decisions and off-field controversy explains why many Leeds supporters still view Radrizzani’s ownership negatively despite the club’s promotion success earlier in his tenure.

His latest appearance at Elland Road was clearly intended as a positive gesture, but it also highlighted how strongly many supporters now associate Leeds’ current direction with Marathe and the 49ers rather than the owner they replaced.
