Georginio Rutter could have chosen one of his own goals, assists or performances when asked which match he would replay, but instead he picked a Leeds United moment from before he even signed.
Clearly, Rutter remains very much a Leeds fan and the club remains in his heart. That answer revealed something important about how deeply he connected with Leeds during his time at Elland Road.
What was your favourite Georginio Rutter moment? 🪄
Rutter and Crysencio Summerville caught up after West Ham drew with Brighton.
Rutter was asked on Premier League’s YouTube, which football match he would most like to replay and immediately referenced Leeds United’s dramatic 2-1 win over Norwich City from 2021-22.
He recalled Raphinha rounded the goalkeeper before setting up Joe Gelhardt for the injury-time winner, a goal that became one of the defining moments of Leeds’ fight against relegation under Jesse Marsch.
That match represented everything Leeds supporters love
The significance of the match goes beyond the result itself because it captured the chaos, emotion and togetherness that supporters associate with modern Leeds United.
It also carried extra historical weight because Daniel Farke had already been sacked by Norwich earlier that season before eventually becoming Leeds United manager. Rutter would become key for Farke.

That emotional attachment became easier to understand once Rutter finally found his best form during the 2023-24 season. Arriving as Leeds United’s record signing in January 2023, Rutter initially struggled.
But he eventually became one of the most important players in Farke’s side as Leeds pushed for promotion back to the Premier League.
Rutter finished the 2023-24 season with eight goals and 16 assists across all competitions as Leeds reached the Championship play-off final, regularly operating as the creative focal point of the attack.
His energy, unpredictability and connection with supporters quickly turned him into one of the most popular players at Elland Road despite spending only 18 months at the club.
His Leeds exit never erased the connection
Rutter eventually left in summer 2024 when Brighton completed a deal worth around £40m, making him one of the biggest sales in Leeds United history alongside the departures of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.
Raphinha was some player for Leeds United 🌟
That move understandably created disappointment among supporters because Leeds lost one of the Championship’s most entertaining players, but his connection with Leeds has never been lost.
The telling detail is that Rutter did not choose a personal highlight from his own Leeds career when given the opportunity. This season, Brighton beat Leeds 3-0 and Rutter got an assist, apologising to fans.
He would then post a picture alongside Farke on his Instagram after the game. For a player who only spent a short period at Elland Road, his connection to Leeds United remains as strong as ever.
