Numerous reports have stated that Finlay Gorman is on his way to Manchester City from Leeds United, without confirmation from player or club – but now, Gorman has taken to his Instagram.
Gorman is seen as a generational talent. One of the best of his age already, earning caps for England’s youth teams. He has already played five times for our Under-18 side, scoring twice and creating another.
Phil Hay recently stated that despite a lack of movement after initial reports, the move would still go through ahead of the January window. He would cost a British record fee for a player of that age.
Hay says he will cost north of £5m if all incentives are met down the line. Now, Gorman has confirmed that he will be leaving Leeds, bidding farewell to his boyhood club, thanking Leeds for his development.
Gorman does not state where he is going though it is widely expected that he will be joining Man City, and the youngster even likes some comments suggesting as much. He posted on Instagram last night.
Finlay Gorman bids farewell to Leeds ahead of Man City move
It is a groundbreaking move. A move that eclipses the previous record for a player of this age, Fran Merida joining Arsenal for £2.2m. Man City have chosen to pay it, confident in Gorman’s huge potential.
Leeds have waved goodbye to plenty of young stars like Gorman, to bigger clubs. Danny Rose went to Tottenham from Leeds and went on to have England caps. Michael Woods, Tom Taiwo joined Chelsea.
They cost £5m. Hopefully, Gorman can break his way into Manchester City’s U18 and U21 side in the next season or two – and start to make an impression on City gaffer, Pep Guardiola, in due course.
