Monday night’s bore draw between Leeds United and Burnley saw two sides play out a chess match in the pouring rain, unwilling to show their hand and risk defeat to secure a victory.

It was not simply a case of going after three points. Risking defeat would have meant a swing of six, Leeds would have lost three and Burnley would have gained three and for Leeds, avoiding defeat was pivotal.

In the race for automatic promotion, Scott Parker’s side needed to win more so than Leeds given they are currently three points behind Leeds. All four sides remain in the race for the top two, with 17 left to play.

But having watched Monday’s clash between Leeds and Burnley, a game that was devoid of any action or chances at either end, Ally McCoist gave his verdict on Leeds and how they may cope if they do go up.

Ally McCoist has a worrying prediction for Leeds United fans

Leeds are the best the Championship have to offer at this moment in time, but Monday night proved to be a restrained Leeds as Farke clearly looked to avoid defeat rather than going after victory at Turf Moor.

Speaking to TalkSPORT this week, McCoist shared if he felt Leeds would cope in the Premier League going off Monday’s display with promotion now on the horizon as The Whites prepare for the last 17 games.

“I’ve watched Leeds at home a few times this season and they have a go but on the evidence of what we saw at Turf Moor, you’d have to say both teams would struggle,” McCoist said, speaking to TalkSPORT.

“That’s coming from someone who loves the Championship, the competitiveness and the Saturday -Tuesday, but I’ve got to say I was disappointed last night,” the well-respected pundit continued.

This is about promotion first, Premier League survival second

It was a clever move from Farke. Leeds fans might have felt that there was a win in sight in Lancashire, but the conditions were terrible and losing momentum and the unbeaten run would have been a concern.

But instead, Leeds take a solid point at a side also gunning for promotion. A third consecutive clean sheet for an under-fire Illan Meslier in a game that could have gone any way, given the rain and the wind.

Farke and Leeds are hell-bent on promotion and it is about getting the job done this season. Survival in the Premier League comes second, and that is something that can be improved in the summer window.
