Alex Neil settles the score on who’s better out of Leeds United, Burnley and Sheffield United after facing all three

Leeds United are sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table once again thanks to a 2-0 win over Millwall at Elland Road on Wednesday night – and Alex Neil has praised Leeds.

It has been a difficult fortnight for Leeds. After the highs of beating Sunderland and Sheffield United, the Whites then picked up just one point from the next two games – losing to Portsmouth on Sunday.

It allowed Sheffield United and Burnley to close the gap, with The Blades going level on points over the weekend. Both sides played before Leeds on Tuesday with the chance to really mount pressure on Leeds.

However, neither could secure wins – both drawing 1-1 and it handed Leeds the chance to re-assert their lead at the top of the table. They did just that with a 2-0 win, even if it was not a vintage Leeds display.

Millwall boss Alex Neil shares verdict on Leeds United after clash

Manor Solomon’s low cross was deflected into Millwall’s goal by Jake Cooper and then goalkeeper Lukas Jensen. It remained 1-0 for much of the game, before Ao Tanaka finally killed the game with a super goal.

Speaking after the game in his post-match press conference, Millwall manager Alex Neil paid tribute to Leeds and described The Whites as the best team in the league, praising half of the Leeds side.

“Need to give Leeds credit. Lost one in 18 games. The best in the division from what I’ve seen. Leeds have got top six players in the back line, middle line and front line. It’s no surprise they’re top of the league.”

Leeds are still missing Ethan Ampadu despite Millwall win

Ampadu has been missing since he was left out of the squad that beat Sheffield United and the skipper’s absence is being felt. Leeds struggled for much of the win at Bramall Lane, and have been mediocre since.

West Brom, Portsmouth and then Millwall have come and gone and it has been far from vintage Leeds. But, if you can win games while not at your best then it is the sign of champions, and that was tonight.

Leeds take on QPR and then there will be a nervous wait to see if Ampadu can return from his injury while Leeds’ international players jet off. One player that won’t be going away though, is Brenden Aaronson.
