Alan Shearer has told Premier League Productions on Wednesday night that Javi Gracia has done a “superb” job so far at Leeds United since his arrival as manager – and that he has earned the “belief” and trust of the Leeds squad.

Gracia, 52, has been excellent since joining the club – just what Leeds needed. Having at times, endured the chaos of Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch, the side were crying out for a touch of pragmatism. Defensive organisation.

The Spaniard has provided that. In his six games in the Premier League so far, Leeds have picked up 10 points from a possible 18. Wins against Southampton, Wolves and Forest – all of which are in the mix for relegation with Leeds.

Chelsea away was a narrow 1-0 loss, despite having chances. A 2-2 draw against high-flying Brighton was a solid result, and a 4-1 loss to Arsenal was a bit of a free hit. Shearer raved about Gracia, describing his job as “superb”.

“They have belief in what the manager is doing. He’s doing a superb job and I feel he’s doing enough to keep them up,” Shearer told Premier League Productions, after watching his beloved Newcastle smash West Ham to win 5-1.
