Former Leeds United defender Aidy White has warned Daniel Farke’s side they cannot afford to underestimate the threat posed by Crystal Palace.

Leeds are riding a wave of momentum heading into another crucial game under the lights at Elland Road, as Daniel Farke looks to continue his side’s recent upturn in form.

The Whites face Oliver Glasner’s high-flying Crystal Palace side, who took the extreme measure of making 11 changes to the team for Palace’s Europa League game on Thursday night.

Farke’s Leeds side have been buoyed by strong performances against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, before a battling draw against Brentford, to lift his side away from the Premier League relegation places.

However, former Leeds full-back Aidy White believes the Whites need to guard against complacency as they welcome the Eagles to Elland Road.

Aidy White warns Leeds United against complacency in Crystal Palace clash

Although Crystal Palace are not considered one of the “big clubs” in the top flight, they have transformed under Glasner, winning the FA Cup last season and currently sitting fifth in the table.

Speaking to the Square Ball Podcast, White warned Leeds that they could not afford to underestimate the Eagles, as they continue to punch above their weight in the Premier League.

White said: “I just hope that we are not in the mindset of really raising our game against the massive teams – your Chelseas, your Liverpools.

“Then slacking off a little bit in terms of your not as big clubs – your Palaces, your Sunderlands. That’s my only concern going into these games.

“Mentally, we are so much more upbeat and prepared, not just as players, but as fans as well, for the games against the so-called bigger teams in this Premier League.”

Crystal Palace have a formidable Premier League away record

While Leeds have been strong under the lights at Elland Road this season, they face a Palace side that is incredibly strong away from home.

Glasner’s side have taken 16 points from their eight away games this season, winning five, drawing one and losing just twice, conceding just five goals in the process.

However, Leeds can take some comfort from the fact that Chelsea have the second-best away record in the competition, and the Blues left Elland Road chastened after a dynamic Leeds performance.
