Vamos de Sevilla say Europa League winners Sevilla will secure the signing of Leeds United striker Rodrigo Moreno with a deal to be confirmed on July 1 – and it is a shame, that we never really saw the best of Rodrigo consistently.

Rodrigo, 32, enjoyed the best of his three seasons at Elland Road last season. He scored 15 of his 28 Leeds goals last term, in just 35 outings. All in the same season in which the Spain star had to undergo an operation on his ankle.

Plenty of clubs have been linked with Rodrigo, since our relegation. Ben Jacobs suggested PSG, Brighton and Aston Villa wanted to land the striker. But now, it looks as if Rodrigo will be on his way to Sevilla in literally, a few days.

The report claims that Sevilla will land Rodrigo and a deal will become official on July 1. Rodrigo has been with the National Team of Spain since our relegation – during Spain’s pursuit to win the UEFA Nations League, which he did.

It is a real shame, but Rodrigo has to go. He is a player that could easily play for a Champions League club and we did see that in the first two years he was at Leeds. His brace against Burnley at Turf Moor springs initially, to mind.

But injuries hit. Marcelo Bielsa used him as a 10 when it is clear as day now, he is a no.9. This is an ode to Rodrigo, a player that could have been the lynchpin for Europe – had he starred as he did in his final season, in his first; 20/21.

Other than maybe Raphinha, Kalvin Phillips – Rodrigo is the best we have had in a number of years. Criminally underrated and perhaps in what was his first season where he stayed injury free, played in his best role, he starred.

Leeds fans only got to see the best of Rodrigo in a dire season that left supporters feeling depressed. So, it is a shame that Rodrigo has to go – which he does. He goes with his head held high, if the reports are to be believed.
