Liverpool assistant boss Pep Ljinders has been discussing the future of defender Calvin Ramsay on Tuesday amid reports that Leeds United are interested – and it is clear Ramsay will now go on loan.
Ramsay, 20, is back at Anfield after his loan spell with Preston North End did not go to plan. The Scot managed just two appearances with injury hampering his progress. Four games in the last 18 months.
He has been ravaged by injury since his move from Aberdeen, which cost The Reds a fee of £6.5m. He has returned to Liverpool but fully fit, Ramsay is expected to be on the move again. Leeds are keen.
With the Whites linked, it was reported earlier this week that the Reds were about to make a decision on the future of Ramsay – whether to loan him out, or keep him at Anfield before starting afresh in June.
But now, it appears they are ready to send him on loan again despite his struggles at Preston. Ljinders told Liverpool’s website that Ramsay – along with Celtic’s Nat Phillips – will be allowed to leave on loan.
“Him and Nat [Phillips], good examples. There’s interest – [which] is good. We have to find – with the agent, with himself, with the clubs – the right decision for the player. He needs to have game time.
“Matt Newberry, our head of loans, he’s full of business this winter. He needs a holiday after this for sure. These boys all have potential, otherwise they would not be with us. A good loan can do wonders.”

Leeds need full-backs, on both sides and Ramsay’s ability to play as both a left and a right-back would solve two birds with one stone. The question is, is he fit – and is he good enough to make an impact?
Right now, after just two games in six months at Preston, you would argue he probably isn’t. But it is clear that he is available and Leeds may find more success in a move for Ramsay, than other targets.
