The Chronicle claim that Newcastle United will leave Ryan Fraser on Tyneside when The Toon jet off to play in the Premier League tournament in USA – amid reports Leeds want the Scotland ace. Newcastle face Villa on Sunday.
Fraser, 29, managed just eight appearances for Newcastle last season and there are murmurs that he has been axed into the club’s U21 side for training. He has not been involved in either of Newcastle’s two pre-season games.
Missing in a 3-2 away win over Gateshead, he was nowhere to be seen at Ibrox on Monday night. The Scotland star looks set to go this summer, despite having two years left on his £63k-a-week deal. Leeds are supposedly looking.
The Sunday Mirror (9/7; page 74) say Leeds and Southampton are doing battle for Fraser, with both clubs expected to be in the mix for promotion from the Championship, securing an instant return to the Premier League in 2023-24.
Now, the report from The Chronicle states that Fraser will not be travelling to USA with the rest of the Newcastle squad. The Toon face Aston Villa on Sunday in Philadelphia, and Fraser will not be there – staying in the North East.
Newcastle to leave Fraser out of USA tournament amid Leeds reports
Leeds have options out wide. A move for Fraser simply depends on whether Leeds sell the likes of Jack Harrison, Willy Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra and Cree Summerville. It remains unclear how many of those players will end up going.
Harrison is likely, as is Gnonto. Sinisterra was, until recent reports suggested he is now open to remaining. Dutch talent Summerville has interest in him. Dan James, Helder Costa and Ian Poveda have all returned from loan spells.
