Michael Bridges once suggested Ange Postecoglou to Leeds United as a possible future boss and now, the LUTV presenter thinks the Tottenham gaffer will replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Postecoglou has starred in his role as Tottenham boss this season, despite having to overcome a huge injury list that includes star Spurs players James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Rodrigo Bentancur.
On Sunday, his tactics helped Spurs draw 3-3 with Guardiola’s City. It comes after impressive spells as Australia boss, winning the J-League in Japan and then performing superbly with Celtic in Scotland.
His tactics, his personality and his brutal honesty is winning plenty of fans – beyond just those of a Spurs persuasion. Back in February, Bridges said he urged Leeds to consider him, way back in 2019.
Then, following the sacking of Jesse Marsch, the Daily Record said that he was on our radar – with the Whites said to have seen similarities between Postecoglou and Marcelo Bielsa. They are easy to see.
Once linked with Leeds: Postecoglou tipped for Man City job
Of course, Leeds are now happy with Daniel Farke and Postecoglou is shining at the top of the Premier League – pushing Spurs into contention for a top-four place after failing to qualify for Europe last term.
Bridges has now claimed, on Optus Sport’s podcast, that Postecoglou will replace Guardiola when the Spaniard calls time on his stay at Manchester City. Clearly, Bridges is a huge fan of the Aussie manager.
“When Pep Guardiola decides time is enough at Man City, Ange Postecoglou will be the next Man City manager. Just remember that. Remember this for a year or two years’ time,” Bridges told Optus Sport.
A big claim, but in terms of the way Guardiola plays his football and how Postecoglou is quickly gaining admirers – including Guardiola – it is certainly one you can imagine. One to keep an eye on in the future.
