Norwich City star Kenny McLean has explained his decision to reject Leeds United and a reunion with Daniel Farke, during an interview with the Pink Un – after Leeds made bids for McLean in the summer.
McLean, 31, was brought to Norwich by Daniel Farke in January 2018 and has since remained – almost six years at Carrow Road. In that time he has played 189 games for Norwich, having a hand in 29 goals.
A regular alongside Liam Cooper for Scotland, McLean has played a crucial role in helping Scotland win a place at Euro 2024. A player that Farke described as “irreplaceable” during his time as Norwich boss.
BBC Sport state that Leeds made numerous bids for McLean. Sky Sports said – as per Football Scotland – Leeds bid a fee of £4m for McLean. The midfielder explained why he signed a Norwich deal, instead.
“Everyone wants the Premier League. That (Leeds interest) was put to bed pretty quickly. It happens a lot. Norwich showed commitment. A lot of big Championship but I’m confident in the squad we have.”

McLean would have been an excellent signing. A midfielder that could act as a playmaker from deep, with Ethan Ampadu – but one that can also be used as a 10. Leeds failed to sign a 10 in the summer.
But they did bring in a deep-lying playmaker in Glen Kamara who is younger and arguably, has a wider experience in terms of reaching the Europa League final, playing in Scotland, winning 50 Finland caps.
So, Leeds are not regretting their inability to sign McLean – but, it would have been a very good signing and clearly a player that Farke rates highly and got the best out of him while manager at Carrow Road.
