Leeds United drew 0-0 with Hull City on Wednesday night and Daniel Farke made the decision to leave Charlie Cresswell out of the squad – and the centre-back cannot be happy, after signing a new contract.
Leeds should have taken the lead – with Georginio Rutter missing a one on one. But then, Joe Rodon’s red card – albeit harsh – and Hull missing a guilt-edged chance late on, a clean sheet and a point is solid.
Rodon and Pascal Struijk have formed an excellent partnership at centre-back with Liam Cooper injured. Charlie Cresswell has warmed the bench, starting only one game – the 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City.

But on Wednesday night, with Cooper fit again after his injury against Cardiff City on the opening day of the season, Cresswell was left out of the entire squad. It comes after the 21-year-old signed a new deal.
With his previous deal ending in June 2024, Cresswell has penned a deal for another four years at Elland Road. But the England U21 man has been made fourth choice – when he might have expected to start.
Linked with a £4m move in January to Middlesbrough, Cresswell would have been thinking a return to Leeds might have seen him become first choice – after relegation. But still, he is struggling to get in.

Leeds centre-back Cresswell cannot be happy after Farke snub
It is early days, and there may be a reason for Cresswell’s omission. But from the face of it, it looks as if Cresswell has been left out with Cooper on the bench. Farke preferring to name one centre-back sub.
But, Farke’s snub will surely have Cresswell worried. It might see him knock on the German’s door this week – and, perhaps, see him question his decision to sign a new deal. He will be needed on Saturday.
With Rodon suspended for one game, it will be interesting to see who Farke brings in – the right-footed Cresswell, or, Cooper. It is likely to be the latter given the skipper came in on Wednesday night.
