Brendan Rodgers has emerged as a priority target for the vacant managerial role at Leeds United.
According to Phil Hay, Rodgers is the one ‘they really want’, with the former Leicester City boss seemingly down to the final two or three candidates.
It has been reported Leeds are conducting interviews this week with a view to finalising an appointment in the coming days, with Daniel Farke and Carlos Corberan among the other options.
That said, links to Corberan appear to have cooled slightly, while Farke has reportedly impressed the club in initial discussions, hinting at a two-horse race.
Farke has an impressive track record in the Championship with Norwich City having twice lifted the title. However, if they are able to prise Rodgers to Elland Road that would be a different level.
49ers can send statement of intent
San Francisco 49ers Enterprises completed their takeover of Leeds on Friday, though it still remains subject to EFL ratification.
That said, the club finally providing clarity on the situation has clearly given them the green light required to really pursue their managerial targets and make an appointment.
As such, the club are hoping to finalise the process this week and Rodgers has clearly emerged as the priority target for the 49ers.
Aside from his final season at Leicester City, Rodgers has enjoyed a superb few years in management, first guiding Celtic to back-to-back trebles.
He then made the move to the aforementioned Leicester, guiding them to a first ever FA Cup in 2020/2021, as well as two consecutive seasons of European football.
Admittedly, it did go stale at the King Power but Rodgers was not really backed in the transfer market last summer and it certainly told.
At its best, Rodgers plays an extremely entertaining brand of football and does also have a Championship promotion under his belt too, at Swansea City in 2011.
This would be a real statement of their intentions for the 49ers if they can get it done.
