Stuart Dallas finds himself in the last year of his Leeds United deal, having not played for almost 20 months and reports claim he might not win himself a new contract – which would be a huge mistake.
Dallas, 32, has been sensational over the years at Elland Road. Crucial in our promotion to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa, and of course, his brace against Man City in front of an empty Etihad.
A Leeds Player of the Year on one occasion, and a Players’ Player on three. Dallas is versatile, well-liked and well recently, just downright unlucky. A player that was labelled “world class” by Angus Kinnear.
That injury, sustained during a duel with Jack Grealish, has kept him out of action since April 2022. Phil Hay reports on The Athletic today that Dallas knows he might not get a new deal, due to his injury.
That would see Dallas leave in June as a free agent and you would imagine, a whole queue of clubs would be looking to sign him. But he is an unknown. What kind of player will we get back when he’s fit?

But, it must be remembered he’s been with us through thick and thin. He’s one of the old guard and the likes of Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper and certainly Luke Ayling are losing their grip on a place in the XI.
However, Bamford, Cooper and Ayling have all gone through bad spots of form – offering only one role in the side. Striker, centre-back, or right-back. Dallas has not had a bad spell of form, offering numerous.
He has excelled, even up to the point he was injured. Yes, he’s 32 and yes, he might not be the player he was prior to the injury – but he deserves a new deal and he might still have the quality to start for Leeds.
