Prior to Daniel Farke’s appointment at Leeds United, Lorient boss Regis Le Bris was reportedly on the shortlist at Elland Road after an impressive 2022-23 season – but this term, he is really struggling.
Last season, Le Bris was the subject of plenty of praise. The 47-year-old was appointed manager of Lorient having initially joined the club back in 2012, as Lorient’s U19 boss. He has worked his way up.
He guided Lorient to an impressive ninth place, attracting interest from clubs. The Sun reported at the beginning of the summer that Le Bris, along with Luton’s Rob Edwards, was a consideration for Leeds.
But, Leeds went for Farke. A potential move for Le Bris did not end with Leeds choosing Farke, though. Ligue 1 rivals OGC Nice wanted him, before they eventually gave Italian boss Francisco Farioli the job.
Le Bris tried to force his way out of Lorient – who had to publish a statement, indicating Le Bris would not be leaving the club, where he has a contract until 2027. Perhaps, that has affected this season.

That is because Lorient are really struggling, failing to build on last season’s successes. They sit in a lowly 17th place after 10 league games, winning only twice. A potential relegation battle is incoming.
Le Bris is still in the job. He is likely to be given time to get the best out of a Lorient side, after last term’s ninth place. A talented manager, it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months.
But there is no doubt that Leeds picked the right man in the form of Farke. A man with a proven track record in the Championship. Le Bris might be a talent, but he would have been a risky appointment.
