Raphinha left Leeds United in the summer of 2022 as Jesse Marsch looked to rebuild the side in a bid to avoid relegation, with the Brazilian moving to Barcelona – but it could have been different.
The 19-time Brazil man had a hand in 29 goals in 67 games for Leeds during his two-year spell in the Premier League. It saw him complete a £55m move to Barcelona 18 months ago, since playing 70 times.
The Brazilian has come in for plenty of praise at times during his spell under Xavi – but also criticism and it is that criticism which continues to see him linked with a return to the Premier League in due course.
In those 70 games, he has still had a hand in 33 goals for Barca – scoring 14 and creating 19. This term, after a poor start, four goals and seven assists in 20. He’s been speaking about his move to Barcelona.
Raphinha spoke to the ‘TikToker’ Adri Contreras and answered some quick questions. As per Spanish outlet SPORT, he was asked which club he nearly joined before Barca – replying Manchester United.

Raphinha claims he almost joined Manchester United from Leeds
Well, Leeds fans still hold Raphinha in their hearts. Had he gone to Old Trafford, it would have been a cruel blow to the fans that adored him for the two years he thrived under Marcelo Bielsa’s guidance.
If he had gone to Manchester United then that would have been a real kick in the teeth, on top of what was already a body blow in losing Raphinha at all. A player that Cree Summerville loved playing with.
Raphinha also hinted at a possible move to Arsenal in the interview and it would be great to see him back in the Premier League. Newcastle and Chelsea are said to be looking at him. Hopefully, not them.
