£25m Leeds United player is not happy with his numbers this season, Elland Road star knows he’s not at his best

Compared to last season, Leeds United are not relying on one or two attacking individuals and the collective are all contributing as Daniel Farke looks to secure promotion at the second attempt.

Last season saw Crysencio Summerville clock up a huge 31 goals and assists, and Georginio Rutter lay on 24 involvements with 16 assists to his name. It was often left to those two to provide the magic spark.

This season, Leeds do not have a Summerville or a Rutter. But the goals and assists are being spread more evenly throughout the side, with Leeds only scoring one less goal after 19 games than last season.

In fact, the goal difference is better with Leeds only conceding 13 this time around – to 18 at this point last term. Defenders are scoring and creating, and Joe Rothwell laid on his second assist on Saturday.

Wilfried Gnonto is not happy with his numbers this season

Last season, Italy star Wilfried Gnonto was not a part of the starting XI until Daniel Farke made a few changes to his starting XI. In came Gnonto, Ilia Gruev, Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford in the new year.

This term, Gnonto has that main-man aura Summerville and Rutter boasted last season – even if Gnonto has been benched a couple of times of late. But the £25m-rated ace is not happy with his numbers.

Gnonto spoke to Sky Sports this week: “I wouldn’t say I’m edging close to where I want to be, being only 21. But I’m working to try my best, to give my best every day and to be the best player I can be.

“I’ve been fit for every game, really happy where I am physically. I think I could have contributed more [goals and assists] but I know I still have more to give. You can see a difference in the way I started.”

Wilfried Gnonto is Leeds’ second-best in terms of involvements

In his 19 appearances, 17 of which he has started, Gnonto has so far scored three goals and laid on five assists. But he has gone off the boil, with Daniel Farke saying he has been better from the bench of late.

But he has more assists than anyone in this Leeds side as he continues to provide the creative spark from out wide, that Leeds have lost in the form of Rutter. Gnonto will be pivotal in Leeds’ pursuit of promotion.

LeedsUnited.News expects Gnonto to start on Tuesday night in place of Dan James after the Welshman lasted 85 minutes in the win over Derby, with Manor Solomon on the left as Leeds face Middlesbrough.
