Pascal Struijk is ‘highly unlikely’ to leave Leeds United in January despite reports linking him with Club Brugge.
Reports from Belgium indicated earlier this week that Club could make a move for Struijk once the window reopens, but according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds will not entertain any prospect of a sale.
Struijk was linked with a move to Club in the summer, though their interest never firmed up into an official bid, with Daniel Farke making it clear he wanted to keep him.
The 24-year-old also said himself during pre-season that it was always his intention to remain at Elland Road, despite Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League in May.
Farke’s arrival at Leeds has really helped Struijk re-find his confidence after an extremely difficult season last year, in which he often played out of position at left-back.
Leeds would be foolish to sell Struijk
Struijk has arguably become one of Leeds’ most important players under Farke, with his ability to progress the ball from the back key to the German’s style of football.
With Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling having been reduced to a lesser role this season, Struijk has also taken the captain’s armband on several occasions, helping him grow into more of a leader.
Leeds are looking likely to be very much among the front runners for automatic promotion and so selling someone as important as Struijk halfway through the season, would be foolish.
Struijk is currently on the road to recovering from surgery on a hernia, with last week’s 2-1 win over Plymouth Argyle the first minutes he has missed all season in the Championship.
Though Leeds got the win, Struijk was missed at the back and so it is promising to hear that it is highly unlikely he will be sold in January.
