Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto wants to move back to the Premier League this summer with ‘decisive days’ now ahead for his future.
That is according to Calcio Mercato, who report despite interest from Serie A, Freiberg and Aston Villa, Everton are currently at the front of the queue for Gnonto’s signature.
Gnonto is not scheduled to return to Thorp Arch for pre-season until July 10 after being granted extra time off due to his exploits with Italy, both at senior level and U21s.
The 19-year-old’s agent has already spoken on his future at Leeds, revealing he is keen to continue playing at the top level and that he would not be short of options.
However, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post last week, Leeds are yet to receive any bids for him and he remains among a group of players San Francisco 49ers Enterprises want to keep.
Gnonto wants to continue in the Premier League
This is disappointing to hear from Gnonto given it is less than 12 months since he arrived from Switzerland, and the fact he only netted two Premier League goals.
That said, it would be huge for Leeds if they were able to keep him and they do still remain in a good position to do so regardless of these latest reports from Italy.
Gnonto does not have a release clause in his contract at Leeds, which still has four years left to run, meaning they should be demanding well in excess of £30 million, based on prices elsewhere.
Everton themselves are not in the best position financially and are still relying on selling some players before they are able to splash the cash on new signings.
Leeds must continue to be as firm as possible in their stance on Gnonto and at 19, a year ripping up the Championship week in, week out, would be good for his development.
