£11m player set to return for pre-season at Leeds in ‘coming days’ with talks planned on future

The vast majority of Leeds United’s squad have been back in pre-season training for over a week now.

Leeds had less than a handful of players involved in either Euro 2024 or the Copa America this summer, both of which are set to come to an end in the next 48 hours.

Junior Firpo, Ethan Ampadu and Dan James were the surprise faces on day one last Tuesday given their international commitments in June, but it is a great show of their commitment ahead of the upcoming season.

Diego Llorente was a notable omission, though it quickly became clear he was told to stay away as a move to Real Betis was finalised.

Having been away in Las Vegas when his return to Leeds was confirmed, Joe Rodon was also a late returnee but is now back, meaning it is only the tournament representatives yet to make an appearance.

Max Wober could be set for future resolution soon

With Liam Cooper looking likely to join Blackburn Rovers, Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober and Rasmus Kristensen are the trio to have been handed extra time off.

Aaronson was away with USA at the Copa America but after their group stage exit, it would not be a surprise if he is already back in West Yorkshire, having committed his future to Leeds in June.

Wober, meanwhile, was eliminated from Euro 2024 in the last-16 with Austria, losing 2-1 to Turkey a little under two weeks ago.

It isn’t certain how long exactly Wober has been given off, but according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, he is due back at Thorp Arch in the ‘coming days’.

The report states developments on his future could then swiftly follow, with it still unclear whether he will be a Leeds player next season.

Wober spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, but they are unable to meet Leeds’ asking price for a permanent deal, despite their interest.

As such, the door still very much remains open as to how his future could unfold, but it may not be long until a decision is made.

Why Daniel Farke may find it more difficult to bring Wober back than Aaronson

Though Farke has not yet decided what his plans for Wober are, it is clear that he is very much considering the prospect of bringing him back.

However, at the same time, there is no doubt that it will be more difficult to bring Wober back than Aaronson due to the events of last summer.

Unlike Aaronson, Wober had reportedly made it clear behind-the-scenes that he wanted to stay until the moment he received a sniff of interest.

Farke had considered him part of his plans before that moment and so may not want to give him a second chance.
