Leeds United target Nat Phillips could be allowed to leave Liverpool on loan this summer with Middlesbrough among the clubs keen.
That is according to the Athletic, who report Boro have registered their interest ahead of the final few days of the window.
Leeds had been interested in a deal for Phillips earlier in the summer but appear to have been put off by their £10 million asking price, with a deal never having progressed.
With Liverpool now open to letting him leave on loan, it remains to be seen whether Leeds re-ignite their interest having already signed Joe Rodon from Spurs in that position.
Rodon is now one of four senior centre-backs in Daniel Farke’s squad and so unless one of Charlie Cresswell, Liam Cooper or Pascal Struijk depart, it feels unlikely.
Liverpool to let Leeds target Phillips leave on loan
Phillips does not feature as part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans at Liverpool with the 26-year-old not even having made the bench so far this season.
In fact, 20-year-old youngster Jarell Quansah is now ahead of him in the pecking order having come on in the final stages of the win at Newcastle United.
There is no doubt Phillips is a solid centre-back at this level but at the same time, Leeds have signed the better player in Rodon.
Rodon is superior in possession and also has more recovery speed than Phillips, which is important given Farke likes to play with a high line.
Leeds remain in the market for a number of new players in the coming days but centre-back appears to be an area they are happy with.
