Norwich City manager David Wagner has claimed Leeds United target Kenny McLean is going nowhere before Friday’s deadline.
Wagner was speaking to Pink Un journalist Paddy Davitt after his side’s 1-0 win away at Bristol City in the Carabao Cup second round.
McLean’s future was among the topics spoken about, with the 31-year-old having been left out of the squad completely for Tuesday night’s match.
His absence allayed fears among Norwich supporters that McLean could be on his way out, amid strong interest from Leeds.
According to Sky Sports on Monday night, Leeds saw a £4 million offer rejected by the Canaries for McLean as they continue their search for a new midfielder.
Wagner says McLean is staying amid Leeds interest
When asked about the potential of McLean leaving Carrow Road, Wagner was extremely firm in his stance that the Scotland international would ‘100%’ be staying.
He said: “He will be here after Friday. 100pc. He has played a lot of football. I wanted to rest him and Gunny. They are going away with Scotland as well.”
Though McLean is clearly a good player at this level, this is probably a blessing in disguise as there are certainly better out there for what Leeds were willing to pay.
Given his age and Wagner’s stance, Leeds would be wise to move on from McLean quickly with midfield still an area that needs addressing.
Glen Kamara, Matt O’Riley, Ao Tanaka and Lewis O’Brien are among the names that have been linked with a move to Elland Road.
