Georginio Rutter has been the attacking heartbeat of this Leeds United side under Daniel Farke but on Tuesday, he was below his high standards – and the stats prove the Frenchman really struggled.
Rutter, 21, has had a hand in 12 goals in 20 Championship games this season. Scoring four times, he has laid on eight assists, creating opportunities for the likes of Cree Summerville, Joel Piroe and Dan James.
Leeds came into the game against Sunderland having won six of the last seven, drawing the other one. But they came unstuck at the Stadium of Light, as Jobe Bellingham scored the only goal of the game.
Rutter has been exceptional this season but on Tuesday it was quite visible that he was miles below we have come to expect of the club-record signing this season. There are going to be games like this.
He can’t do what he does in every match, especially with Sunderland coming just three days after the win over Blackburn. A return to Elland Road on Saturday may help Rutter get back to his best for Leeds.

But the stats are grim reading. He had 10 unsuccessful touches, way more than anyone else on the pitch – the second-highest being four. That is damning. Rutter was dispossessed on three further occasions.
WhoScored also say that he only managed 14 passes all night, and just 44 touches – completing only nine of those passes. Just nine successful passes. Not good enough. Leeds, and Rutter, expect better.
It was no surprise to see Daniel Farke decide to take Rutter off instead of Piroe on 75 minutes, when he brought on Jaidon Anthony and Willy Gnonto. Need an improvement on Saturday against Coventry.
