Wimbledon star Ali Al-Hamadi has been strongly linked with a move to Leeds United and other big clubs in the Football League – and he’s now opened up on his future, ahead of the January window.
Al-Hamadi, 21, took his tally to 20 goals and assists last time out as Wimbledon beat Portsmouth 5-2 in the EFL Trophy. His form has not gone unnoticed, with Johnnie Jackson describing him a “shining light”.
A player that has also thrown his name onto the international radar, playing 11 times for Iraq and scoring three goals. Leeds are looking at a January move, as are Sunderland, Derby and Blackburn next month.
Reports also said that Peterborough were winning the £1.5m race, only for The Posh’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony to ridicule those claims. Al-Hamadi has discussed his future with London Football Scene.
“Wherever my career goes, this will be one of my favourite places to ever play football because of the special connection I have with the fans, players and staff. It’s a special club,” Al-Hamadi said this week.
“I hope this support continues until the end of the season, we want promotion. I wanted to show what I’m capable of. The fans, the gaffer have been amazing in helping me do that. Long may it continue.”

Leeds do not need another striker, as things stand. But, Leeds play with a striker as a no.10 and having a striker that creates, like Al-Hamadi – who has six assists this term – would give Joel Piroe competition.
Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph may feel they need a loan exit, though as things stand, it looks unlikely. Daniel Farke has told Gelhardt he is going nowhere. Patrick Bamford will want to be starting more often.
So, signing Al-Hamadi would be a smart move. Even if, Leeds sign him but allow Al-Hamadi to remain at Wimbledon for the rest of the 23-24 campaign. A bargain, potentially, at £1.5m. One we should pursue.
