Such is the way that when a side produces such a battling performance, there are always a few knocks and bruises. That is the case for Leeds United, after a 0-0 draw with Liverpool.
Leeds managed to go six games unbeaten on Thursday night when many expected the Whites to suffer defeat. This is not the Liverpool that Leeds faced in December, they have won their last four matches.
Not only that, but Leeds went to Anfield without the weapon of Elland Road and arguably, without their most important player in Joe Rodon. Dan James and Sean Longstaff also remain sidelined with injuries.
Yet, despite Sebastiaan Bornauw starting his first Premier League match and James Justin only a second for Leeds, the Whites managed to keep Liverpool at bay and win a first clean sheet since August.
Agree or disagree – Leeds will be disappointed not to have nicked a win at Anfield

Daniel Farke delivers Sebastiaan Bornauw and Ilia Gruev updates
Bornauw has only been used as a late substitute twice in the Premier League, while Gruev has been rotational but mostly overlooked. However, both started at Anfield and it has to be said, were superb.
Gruev was among the top players in LeedsUnited.News’ player ratings. For a second season, he adopts the away-from-home defensive role. But with a lack of game time comes a lack of match fitness.

Bornauw and Gruev were both taken off by Farke towards the end of the match, with both experiencing some discomfort. Farke was asked if the duo would be available to face Man United this weekend.
“Just cramps,” Farke responded in his post-match press conference, when asked about the duo. We will see. Some late decisions for Sunday, earliest possible KO. We will find solutions. Hope both are available.”
Ilia Gruev’s availability has suddenly become absolutely crucial
Since his £4m arrival from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2023, Gruev has had to wait for his chance under Farke. He has had to endure long spells on the bench as better players get their chance to shine.
But while Gruev is not a player with flair or one who creates magic, he is impeccably reliable. Never makes mistakes, rarely gives the ball away, and his positioning as a defensive midfielder is absolutely sublime.
How good was Ethan Ampadu against Liverpool? 🙌
The Leeds captain stood tall at Anfield
One of Farke’s most underrated signings, the Bulgarian’s fitness is now crucial. Ethan Ampadu will miss Sunday’s clash against Man United due to suspension, meaning it is paramount that Gruev is now fit.
If Leeds are to stand any chance of keeping Man United at bay on Sunday, having either Ampadu or Gruev available is crucial. It means that with Ampadu missing, Gruev has to play 90 minutes on Sunday.
