Leeds United’s promotion bid took a bit of a hit on Saturday afternoon as they failed to get the better of Preston North End.

Daniel Farke‘s side had the chance to move two points back ahead of Sheffield United with a win against Preston, but it didn’t go to plan in what was a very frustrating game.

Leeds United struggled to find the final pass in the first half and looked lost at times, moving the ball forward, and ended up getting caught on the counter-attack for Preston’s goal.

However, there was some controversy, as Ben Whiteman should have been sent off in the first-half for a reckless challenge on Jaden Bogle.

That wasn’t the only disappointing decision in the game, as Leeds fans have also been sharing their disappointment with Joel Piroe‘s display.

Leeds United fans react to Joel Piroe’s display vs Preston

These Leeds United fans, when speaking on X, all said the same thing about Joel Piroe.

@Jonnymann88 said: Meslier shocker again. Piroe a passenger at best, a liability at worst. Ref absolutely bottled it and the games descended into a scrappy show with no control. Fantastic.

@ZakArmitage28 wasn’t happy: “Piroe invisible.”

@LordBamfordMOT mentioned: “Please can we take Piroe off. Absolutely awful today.”

@J_MO80 commented: “Piroe. Awful player. We must invest in a striker in Jan.”

Joel Piroe’s performance in numbers against Preston

Joel Piroe had an afternoon to forget at Leeds, failing to have much of an impact on the game and even had a pathetic free-kick attempt in the first half.

He played the full 90 minutes with Leeds chasing the game.

The striker had just 37 touches, one shot on target, a 94% passing accuracy, won two of his four duels, lost possession five times and made one tackle.

Luckily, it was Mateo Joseph who saved the day after being brought on late on.
