Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s record against Burnley suggests second Leeds United goal is coming

The second international break is over, and Leeds United return with a massive clash against a Burnley side that joined The Whites in being automatically promoted from the Championship, last season.

While Leeds play 38 Premier League games this season, only a handful will have been identified as games that Leeds can win, and Saturday’s trip to Burnley is certainly one of those. Burnley have had a tricky start.

Largely, unlucky. Late goals against Liverpool and Manchester United saw Scott Parker’s side go from a point won to defeats. But facts are facts, Burnley have won just one point from their last five matches.

All three promoted sides have held their own, and even Burnley, compared to the promoted trio from last season, have been solid. Leeds need their best players to come to the fore, like Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s record against Burnley is excellent

While both sides will think they can win this, it will be a battle. Two physical sides that drew 0-0 in the same fixture last season, and only one goal was scored in both games during the 2024-25 campaign.

Leeds need their star quality to rise to the occasion, and Calvert-Lewin is capable of that. Especially when looking at Calvert-Lewin’s record. He has four goals in his last six Premier League games against Burnley.

While his overall record in the 12 games he has played against Burnley is six wins and five goals, his last six Premier League outings have equated to four goals. He’s also laid on an assist in The FA Cup, too.

Which changes could Daniel Farke make to his Leeds side?

Calvert-Lewin, if he has remained fit during the international break, will be one of the first names on the team sheet. Especially, in a tough clash against Burnley at Turf Moor, when taking his record into account.

There are three areas that Farke may decide to change. His goalkeeper, with Lucas Perri expected to be fit and Karl Darlow, although impressive, hasn’t kept a clean sheet, conceding seven Wales goals this month.

Jaka Bijol was excellent for Slovenia and may come in for Pascal Struijk, while Brenden Aaronson’s place is not yet cemented. However, Dan James is injured and Willy Gnonto may have only just returned to action.

But three of the four defenders will remain the same, the midfield is likely to remain intact and up top, Aaronson is expected to get the nod alongside Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor come Saturday.
