It has only been seven Premier League games, and for Sean Longstaff, it has only been five starts but the midfielder has already become a favourite at Elland Road under Daniel Farke.
Leeds finally convinced Newcastle to sell Longstaff in the summer after a fourth bid worth an initial £12m plus £3m in add-ons. The 27-year-old chose to join Leeds after opting to leave his boyhood club.
Longstaff had entered the final year of his contract, and that convinced Leeds to make a move, bringing in a player that might have cost more money had he had two or three years remaining on his deal.
The midfielder began as a substitute in the opening games against Everton and Arsenal, but injuries in midfield saw Longstaff make his first Premier League start against Newcastle, winning man of the match.

A goal and an assist against Bournemouth saw him named man of the match for a second time, with the midfielder now one of the first names on the team sheet alongside Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu.
Danny Murphy thinks Leeds got one of the deals of the summer in Longstaff and so it is proving to be. On Wednesday evening, Leeds announced that Longstaff had won the club’s Player of the Month award.
Longstaff [above] posted on X to thank Leeds fans for their support and look forward to Saturday’s clash against Burnley, another promoted side. Newcastle fans were plentiful in responding to the midfielder.
Clearly, Longstaff is still loved among the Newcastle support having come through the academy there: “Once a Geordie, always a Geordie.” Another posted on X: “We’re all supporting you forever.”
Others simply took the time to reply “well done” and show they are still thinking of him and watching his progress. Another said, “I’m loving this Leeds Longstaff renaissance. Cult hero potential. You deserve it.”
Is Sean Longstaff, Leeds’ best signing of the summer window?
James Justin, Jaka Bijol, and Sebastiaan Bornauw have hardly been given the chance to show what they are all about. Lucas Perri has spent the last few weeks out injured, with Karl Darlow replacing him.
Anton Stach has been equally as important in midfield but many would argue the Germany international has been slightly anonymous in a few games. Gabriel Gudmundsson has been superb at left-back.
But his header against Fulham and mistake against Spurs have resulted in goals. Noah Okafor and Dom Calvert-Lewin look solid in attack and Lukas Nmecha is good cover, but Longstaff is the best of the 10.
