Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff will disagree with Daniel Farke on odd Dominic Calvert-Lewin verdict

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has become a divisive figure since moving to Leeds in August.

Leeds are the most wasteful team in the entire Premier League with the England international up top, who has played 90 minutes in all of the last four league outings – but can boast just one goal.

Daniel Farke opted to defend Dominic Calvert-Lewin in his press conference ahead of the clash against West Ham, but his comments may leave Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff scratching their heads.

Bruno Fernandes statistic proves Leeds are creating enough for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The Leeds boss boldly suggested that his players could do more to create chances for the 28-year-old.

As quoted by The Yorkshire Post, Farke said: “There were also one or two situations where he could have finished better in the last games, no doubt about this, but he has proven before that he’s a goalscorer and he will score goals if he has chances. We can create even a bit more for him.”

That final sentence is not fair on Stach and Longstaff.

WhoScored shows that the Leeds duo are actually the two most creative players in the entire Premier League so far this season behind Bruno Fernandes.

Longstaff has created 17 chances in the Premier League this term, while Stach has made 14 goalscoring opportunities.

Therefore, Leeds are clearly creating a high volume of chances, but simply lack a striker capable of putting these opportunities away.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the problem but is still doing a lot right

The Leeds No.9 currently sits third in the Premier League for ‘big chances missed’ this season with five in six appearances, providing further evidence that his poor finishing is the issue instead of a lack of creativity in the side.

However, the names surrounding Calvert-Lewin, who has helped Harry Gray, on this list speak volumes.

As you can see, this list is full of superstars such as Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres – who are among the best attackers in the division.

Therefore, Calvert-Lewin is evidently getting himself into some fantastic areas with clever movement, but his end product undoubtedly needs improvement.
