‘Why not?’… Midfield powerhouse made interesting exit admission as Leeds United enter race

It is still three months until the summer transfer window opens but Leeds United are already being linked with potential additions and one player has admitted he is open to a move.

Promotion will see Leeds enter the summer armed with the financial prowess of The 49ers and RedBull, and the aim of survival. Phil Hay says Leeds have a better chance now, than under Andrea Radrizzani.

A new goalkeeper, a left-back, centre-backs, another midfielder, a no.10, Manor Solomon or another left winger and possibly a striker will be required in the summer if Leeds are to survive in England’s top tier.

Huge work to do. Unsurprising then, perhaps, that Leeds are already being linked with new players and likely already putting the ground work in to bring in some new players ahead of the summer window.

What new Leeds target Abdoulaye Sissako said about his future

Leeds are being linked with French powerhouse Abdoulaye Sissako. The 26-year-old has been in good form with Belgian side Kortrijk this season, but they are likely to be relegated and his deal ends in 2026.

A bargain buy for Leeds for a player that can play in holding midfield and at centre-back, with Josuha Guilavogui set to leave. Sissako is tempted by Leeds and here is what he said about his future in 2024.

He told Africa Foot last year: “I have two years left on my contract. So, I’m not rushing, but if a club comes along with a good project, why not? But for now, given that I still have time, there’s no reason to panic.”

How Abdoulaye Sissoko compares to Leeds man Ilia Gruev

If Sissako was to join Leeds, his direct competition would be Ilia Gruev with Ethan Ampadu above the pair. Daniel Farke has made it clear, time after time, that skipper Ampadu is the club’s most-important player.

What is clear from the stats, is that Gruev has had the benefit of playing for Leeds. The same amount of wins in 89 less appearances while also obtaining five more clean sheets than Mali international Sissako.

However, Sissako clearly provides more of a goal threat. A big physical presence from set-pieces, he has scored eight senior goals and laid on 12 assists. Perhaps that is something Farke will want next season.
