Leeds United’s focus in the transfer market is now likely to switch to adding a midfielder and a full-back before Friday’s deadline, after the signing of Manor Solomon was confirmed.
Daniel Farke spoke after the sale of Georginio Rutter to Brighton that Leeds needed four new signings before Friday. He wanted two attacking signings, a goalscoring midfielder and more cover at full-back.
The £10m signing of Largie Ramazani and the addition of Solomon on loan from Tottenham have seen Leeds act quickly, and just in time, to replace both Summerville and Rutter ahead of the Friday deadline.
But Leeds are not done yet. Other attacking players are being linked while Leeds’ priority is likely to be a midfielder. One player linked is Bournemouth ace Philip Billing after falling out of favour at The Vitality.
What Woodgate said about new Leeds target Billing in 2021
Leeds and Burnley are interested in signing Billing, but Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United are leading the race to sign the Cherries ace. A player that worked under Jonathan Woodgate while Bournemouth manager.
Former Leeds defender Woodgate raved about Billing in April 2021 when speaking to the Daily Echo after a 2-1 win over Huddersfield as Billing’s Bournemouth looked to gain promotion from The Championship.
“He’s a very good no.10. He’s adding goals to his game, his composure on the ball is outstanding. He is doing really well, Phil. I am happy for him. He’s putting the effort in, he works his socks off in games.
“He’s getting in the box, the ball is landing to him and he’s finishing. He can do it all really. He’s getting consistent, playing with a smile on his face. He’s getting high up the pitch, making assists, scoring goals.”
Billing scored in Jesse Marsch’s last Premier League win at Leeds
Marsch’s last win in the Premier League as Leeds manager came in November 2022, three months before he was finally sacked by owner Andrea Radrizzani. A 4-3 comeback win over the Cherries at Elland Road.
Leeds were 3-1 down at home to Bournemouth after Rodrigo’s penalty. The £15m ace netted the second with a lovely finish into the top corner to put his side 2-1 up, but Leeds came crawling back to win 4-3.
A gorgeous Sam Greenwood goal, a Liam Cooper header and then a late solo run from Wilfried Gnonto set up Crysencio Summerville to score a late winner on the counter. Maybe, Billing returns to Elland Road.
