It is fair to say that Sonny Perkins is probably not going to get the best reception from West Ham fans if he gets the chance to play for Leeds United at the London Stadium in the coming years.

After weeks of speculation, the Whites have announced the signing of the 18-year-old. He arrives at Elland Road after his contract with the Hammers expired.

It is a surprise to see Perkins leave the Irons. He made his first-team debut last season. And he appeared to be on the right path towards earning more opportunities for David Moyes’ men. Perkins scored 10 goals in Premier League 2.

But it is another coup for Leeds who have done some brilliant work when it comes to bolstering their youth ranks in recent years.

Of course, the likes of Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood and Crysencio Summerville have shown that the pathway is there for the brightest youngsters. And it seems that that may have attracted Perkins this summer.

The teenager has now signed a three-year deal with the Whites. The two clubs will now discuss a compensation fee. But the figure could be set by a tribunal if an agreement cannot be reached.

The news has not gone down well with some West Ham supporters. And that should be encouraging as we await the chance to see our new signing up close.
