Tottenham sounding out Karl Darlow should concern Leeds United because it underlines how important the veteran goalkeeper became during their Premier League survival campaign.
Darlow outperformed Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario statistically this season and helped Leeds collect more points whenever he played. But the Wales no.1 is out of contract in five weeks’ time.
DISCUSS: He might be 35, but Leeds have to give Darlow a new deal! 🧤
Tottenham are lurking…
Spurs are clearly unconvinced by their current options after a chaotic season which saw them narrowly avoid relegation, with concerns growing around both Guglielmo Vicario and Antonin Kinsky.
The Mail claim Tottenham are now assessing Darlow. The numbers justify that interest. Darlow produced a 70.73% save percentage in the Premier League during 25-26, while Vicario’s dropped to 63.7%.
Leeds performed better with Darlow in goal
Darlow’s impact on Leeds’ survival battle was measurable rather than sentimental. Leeds averaged 1.27 points per game when 35-year-old Darlow started in the Premier League compared to 1.13 without him.

His individual statistics were equally strong. The veteran goalkeeper recorded 58 saves and five clean sheets in 21 Premier League appearances, while also conceding just 1.05 goals per 90 minutes.
Darlow’s season becomes even more impressive when considering how it started. Leeds signed Lucas Perri and initially pushed Darlow down the pecking order, yet he eventually reclaimed the No.1 role and kept it during the most important part of the campaign.
That consistency did not go unnoticed internally either. Stuart Dallas praised Darlow’s performances and framed him as one of Daniel Farke’s most underrated signings at Elland Road.
Leeds cannot afford to ignore the contract situation
Darlow is one of four Leeds players currently out of contract this summer alongside Illan Meslier, Alex Cairns and Sam Byram. Leeds may hesitate because of Darlow’s age, but his performances suggest that would be an overly simplistic decision.

Premier League clubs do not target experienced backup goalkeepers out of charity. Tottenham’s interest exists because Darlow proved this season that he remains dependable at the highest level, particularly during pressure moments.
Leeds do not need to build their long-term future around Karl Darlow, but they should recognise the value he provided during a difficult campaign. Allowing a proven Premier League performer to leave for nothing after a season like this would create an unnecessary risk that Leeds may quickly regret.
